DESCRIPTION
SOLUTION
Execution of a social space analysis and concept development of a location planning.
IMPACT
Making available the overall concept that living and integration work together and develop planning.
In 2016, many municipalities across Germany sought out solutions for the accommodation of refugees. In many places, standardized, conventional designs with minimal standards were chosen. During this time, MTS prioritized advising against degrading building models (e.g. container settlements) and proposed better solutions based on the international experience it had gathered.
In cooperation with the Stephanus Foundation and the company 40feet, a concept for a pilot location was developed, in which housing was closely interwoven with an integration concept. The guiding principle was the vision of a “stepping stone” into the city. Therefore, the accommodations should be closely connected with the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, the project concept could never be implemented directly. Nevertheless, it shaped many ideas and approaches of the future work of MTS and also shaped future decisions for all stakeholders.
